Good Overview and Introduction

Anyone wanting to learn Grails cannot ignore “The Definitive Guide to Grails 2”.
Anyone wanting to learn Grails cannot ignore this book. At least not until the 2nd edition of “Grails in Action” has been released.
Previous knowledge of Groovy is absolutely essential for this book, as it is not covered at all.
The biggest disadvantage of this book is that you cannot read it from front to back and understand everything immediately. It is not structured didactically, but rather by technical area. You can browse through it once, but you won’t understand everything right away because many things are still unfamiliar. But afterwards, it can be used very well “selectively”. It is excellently suited for this because it is structured and you quickly become familiar with the outline. For a long time, I always kept it within reach of my laptop whenever I was developing in Grails. I already used the first version of this book for Grails 1.
Together with the standard documentation, the book offers a good overview for beginners and advanced users. However, beginners also need a “hands-on approach”, which this book unfortunately does not provide. And professionals should also take a look at “Programming Grails” by Burt Beckwith.
