Programming TrueColor graphics with the Diamond Speedstar 24x

March 31, 1993

In 1993 a graphics resolution of 640x480 in true color (8 bit per RGB channel) was state of the art. I had bought the Diamond Speedstar 24x card back then and stumbled over false information in the c’t magazine.

Subsequently, I wrote a letter to the editor (on paper!!!) which then became part of the article “Moduswechsel - TrueColor-Programmierung der Diamond Speedstar 24x” in the c’t 4/1993.

The article explains how to switch the card to True Color mode and how to calculate the coordinates correctly. At that time, True Color cards were a novelty. A True Color card has 8 bits for each color Red-Green-Blue, meaning values from 0 to 255, available.”

In the photo, the article was made illegible due to copyright.
