Silver's solar demand

Silver is half monetary metal, half industrial input, and the industrial half has a structural buyer gold lacks: photovoltaics. ekwufinance’s figures (09/2026, likely Silver Institute / industry projections): solar used 81.6 moz in 2016, 198 moz in 2024, projected 321–450 moz by 2030 — against mine supply of roughly 830 moz (memory), so by 2030 solar alone could take more than half of what is mined. Energy-security spending after the Iran war would push deployment above those forecasts.

What to hold against it: thrifting is real (grams of silver per cell have fallen for a decade and copper-metallization cells exist), so the moz forecasts assume the substitution curve stays slow; and the monetary half still dominates price swings, which is why silver trades as high-beta gold rather than as a solar stock. The trader’s version of the two halves is the gold/silver ratio: honzacern1’s “one day silver will outrun its master — let gold open the door” is the bet that industrial tightness plus monetary beta compounds. Both posters sell the metal.
